Album Review: Digitalism – Reality 2

Digitalism

Reality 2

Running Back

Release date: October 2, 2020

Digitalism, the German electro band formed in Hamburg in 2004 and composed of Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekci is coming back this October with a whole new EP called Reality 2.

The five tracks that make up this new EP are absolutely fantastic. We start with the eponym track Reality 2 that will instantly make you dance no matter where you are. An incredible work has been done on increasing the pressure and releasing it at the right moment. The structure is simple but highly efficient. Trans Global Ltd starts with a harder electro bit. Synths are gradually added, one layer after another the track is built before our ears. The repetition of the beats is well balanced without ever creating the impression of déjà vu. Flash Forward starts on a rawer tone and quietly brings a more upbeat and hovering sound. Promises offers great repetitions of rhythms that will take you by surprise, sometimes more muffled and other times more direct. Visuals closes this EP on a bright touch with a hopping rhythms.

Reality 2 is an amazing EP. Each of the five tracks, even if they share similar grounds, offer a special experience. The structure of the tracks is simple and very well adjusted. It feels like every addition was weighted to reach a perfect balance. We wouldn’t remove any beats, rhythms or sounds and it creates a cheerful and luminous atmosphere.
